Description: The National Weather Service in Juneau has issued a

* Flood Watch for Central Inner Channels…Including the following
AREA…the Taku River near Juneau.

* Through Sunday afternoon.

* Due to rising water levels and falling water temperature.

* As of early Saturday morning, the Taku River stage was at 39
feet and rising at a rate of 1 foot every 4 hours. Minor
flooding begins at a stage of 43 feet. At that time,
infrastructure along the river banks will begin to become
inundated with water. The current forecast projects a crest of
43 feet, or moderate flood, mid morning on Sunday, July 5th. As
flooding progresses, additional hazards will include debris in
the form of trees and large branches as well as chunks of ice
floating downstream with the current. These will pose a hazard
to marine navigation and float plane operations.
Instruction: A watch means conditions are favorable for the development of
flooding in and close to the watch area.

Persons living along the Taku River should stay alert and be
prepared to take action if a warning or advisory is issued, or
flooding is observed.

This statement will be updated by 4 PM AKDT Sunday or sooner if
conditions warrant.
